Welcome, everybody, lend me your ears! This is my first post of hopefully many on this great music blog. First of all, thanks to Jack and Zach (what do you know, that rhymes!) for letting me post on this site. My music tastes may sometimes not align with all the other editors or readers, but I’m sure that, in the right situation, all of these songs can find their place in anyone’s iTunes.
Now, on to the song. I first heard this song when I was in a car with my sister and her friend. This beach-y, breezy tune is Wiz Khalifa at his best, soaring vocals over a laid back and calm tempo drum with a few guitars thrown in for good measure. While the subject matter is nothing to write home about (Wiz smokes weed, who knew!?), I ask you to find a better song to play while grilling burgers on a Saturday afternoon or cruising down an open highway on a warm July night at 11:45pm. The lo-fi quality of the recording makes the song sound even more authentic, as if Snoop and Wiz are recording this over GarageBand in a studio down the street. It is a nice feeling to hear an amateur, authentic type of sound come from a guy who is known to many as the auto-tuned “Black and Yellow” star. Snoop Dogg makes a cameo, and while appreciated, it is more of a “passing the torch” verse from one celebrated rapper to the next hip-hop star.
