Unless you own the (500) Days of Summer soundtrack and have obsessively listened to it dozens of times like I have, you’ve probably never heard of this band. Mumm-Ra were a blip on the ever-changing, ever-trendy British indie scene back in 2007, but after just one album, These Things Move In Threes, they were gone and broken up just as quickly as they had arrived. It’s a shame, because a) we could use some more unabashedly Britpop bands and b) we could use more bands named after villains from Thundercats.

I was inspired to write about this song because it’s a gorgeous sunny day outside, and I can’t think of that many sunnier songs than this one. Literally, the sun comes out at the ending of (500) Days of Summer when this song starts to play. It’s built on an angular, warm guitar loop and great vocal harmonies delivered in especially thick British accents. As for the song’s message, it’s fairly simple – “She’s got you high and you don’t even know yet.” It’s a song about new love; don’t think too much about it because too much thinking ruins this song’s carefree tone. Plus, trying to decipher the lyrics would be a losing battle anyway because frontman James New’s accent is so heavy that half the time you can’t understand what he’s saying. Go out and enjoy the beautiful day!
