I’m always impressed when a rock group can collaborate and produce a track that tells an awesome story, combining really clever lyrics and head-sticking instrumentals to formulate a song that warrants infinite repeated listenings. The simple guitar progression in this song gives it a very upbeat feel, the snappy percussion subtly guides the song, and the lyrics grab the listener with their unique story-telling ability. The lead vocalist, Matthew Shultz, has a terrifically unique voice with an accent that gives all their songs a jovial tone. His bubbling energy that is so obvious in his voice along with his clever lyricism makes the listener fully engaged with every word he spouts. This song, although the topic is far from lighthearted, can easily make you laugh out loud with its clever progression and fully developed story. The step by step examples of why the chorus is the way it is really pull the listener in, keeping them on the edge of their seat wanting to know what happens to this person next. When the song comes full circle by stating that “we all seek out to satisfy those thrills,” the listener quickly recognizes the similarities between the individuals in the song and themselves. This song has the perfect amount of hilarity and critique of human nature, and the musical talent displayed by the artists provide a groovy background for listening.
